No. 8 Creighton Too Much for Huskers in First Road Test

By News Dec 11, 2020 | 9:18 PM

For 20 minutes, the revamped Huskers kept up with their rival and top-10 Creighton. But there is a reason the Bluejays are rated No. 8 and Nebraska is 3-3 on the season.

With both teams coming off of losses, the Friday matchup in Omaha was one to build momentum as Christmas draws near.

Nebraska kept things close through the first half, shooting 48-percent and making five 3s, but committed 12 turnovers that turned into 14 Creighton points and a four point halftime lead for the home team. Creighton shot just under 43-percent and made seven 3s, and that was just the start.

The teams exchanged baskets to keep the difference at four points over the first four minutes, then Creighton took off on a 23-2 run and effectively ended any thoughts about an upset. The Bluejays shot 60-percent in the second half and made seven more 3s to cruise to a 98-74 win.

Nebraska finished with a season-high 25 turnovers, which turned into 38 points for Creighton.

Outside of the turnovers and shooting just 9-of-21 on layups, the Huskers had their best shooting night from deep since the season opener. The Huskers made 11 of their 26 attempts from 3.

Teddy Allen scored a career-high 26 points while adding nine rebounds. Dalano Banton and Trey McGownes were the only other Huskers in double figures with 12 and 15 points, respectively.

There will be plenty of time to make adjustments after the non-conference schedule has ended. The Huskers are next in action in 10 days, taking on Wisconsin to begin the 20-game Big Ten schedule.
