A 40 year old man called police on November 30th just after 5 a.m. saying his 2014 Honda Accord had been stolen. He had left it running and unlocked as he ran inside gas station near 33rd and Holdrege. At 7:20 a.m., police were called to a hit-and-run accident in the 2200 block of S 13th Street. The victim reported that the stolen Honda had struck her vehicle and left the area.
At 7:40 a.m., police were called to the 900 block of S 20th Street on a report that a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe was stolen. The victims reported leaving her vehicle unlocked and warming up on the street.
At 7:45 a.m., an officer was sent on a found bumper in the yard of a home in the 1400 block of Rose Street. Witnesses reported seeing three females pull the bumper off a black car and leave it in the area.
At 8 a.m., officers were sent to a Honda in the 1200 block of S 30th Street that had front end damage and the doors were left open. Officers arrived and determined that was the stolen Honda responsible for the hit-and-run accident. Officers searched the area and located video from a nearby home. Officers saw the Honda and the Hyundai driving in the area together. The video also showed several people removing items from the Honda and then all getting into the Hyundai and leaving the area.
At 10 a.m., an unmarked police car saw the Hyundai near 27th and Capitol Parkway and while following the vehicle it took off at a high rate of speed.
At 10:15 a.m., officers found the unoccupied Hyundai with the doors open in the area of 27th and Orchard. Officers also saw a female matching the description provided by witnesses and seen in the video running nearby. As officers yelled for the female to stop, she ran but was eventually taken into custody a short time later.
The female was identified as a 16-year-old who was arrested for two felony counts of Theft by Receiving and Obstructing a Peace Officer and lodged at the Youth Assessment Center.
Lincoln Police report that on Monday, November 30th between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., six vehicles were reported stolen. Five were left running and unattended. They ask as cold weather returns, remember to stay with your vehicle when it is warming up and remove the keys and lock the doors to avoid having your vehicle stolen.
