A woman cited for for auto theft on September 16th is back behind bars.
Police were called to the 1300 block of South 16th on Tuesday, September 22nd around 12:45 p.m. and talked to several victims who reported a woman had been taking things from vehicles. She was identified as 28 year old Mary Nyembo. Police contacted Nyembo near Goodhue Blvd. and B Street as she was trying to get into a gray 1990 Lexus. That vehicle had been reported stolen.
Officers searched the area and identified five incidents involving victims of a larceny. Based on victim statements and property found on Nyembo, officers determined she likely stole a vehicle, broke into a residents and had taken items from several vehicles.
Nyembo was booked for burglary, a felony, two counts of theft, both felonies, and two counts of unlawful taking.
On September 16th, Nyembo was arrested near 12th and E. She was found with a key to a stolen vehicle her possession. She told police she found the vehicle unlocked and the keys inside. She took the car because she was tired of walking.
