June sales tax receipts are better than expected in Lincoln.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continued through April with most of the state shut down, Lincoln city officials expected a 40 percent drop in sales tax.
But what was collected from residents in June – which reflects tax receipts from April – only shows about a 14-percent drop from the same time a year ago.
The latest city budget introduced by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird reflects the gap leading to the city cutting 12-million dollars in their latest budget proposal which is now under review by the city council and residents.
The council is expected to have a budget hearing this afternoon.
Gaylor Baird will hold a news conference at 10:30 this morning to discuss the use of force policy by the Lincoln Police Department.
