A suspect in a weekend homicide is apprehended in Florida.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister says police in Jacksonville, Florida arrested 30-year-old Ryan Long yesterday for the murder of 31-year-old Michael Whitemagpie Saturday in Lincoln.
Bliemeister says a warrant was issued for Long’s arrest almost 24-hours after Whitemagpie’s murder and authorities in Jacksonville recognized him from a national database after pulling over a vehicle he was a passenger in.
Long was taken into custody without incident. During a search, a 9mm handgun was also located.
The 30-year-old has a lengthy criminal record, like shooting a woman in the thigh after a disagreement and robbing a man outside of a gentleman’s club.
A timeline is still being established for the events leading up to Whitemagpie’s murder.
It’s not known at this time why Long was in Florida.
An investigation is ongoing.
