Nebraska Grocers Ask Customers To Help Maintain Public Safety, Expect Less Variety of Certain Goods

The state’s grocery stores are asking for customer’s compliance in making sure health guidelines and mandates are being followed in stores.

Nebraska Grocer’s Association President, Kathy Siefken was present at Wednesday’s gubernatorial coronavirus briefing reminded residents that the measures are in place to protect public safety.

“Our customers need to take this very, very seriously,” said Siefken.

She says customers need to remember to maintain a six-foot distance between other customers, to not come to the store in groups, and to leaving reusable bags at home.

Also, don’t stockpile.

“We’ve said this over and over again; there’s plenty of food. Purchase what you need and leave some for your neighbors,” said Siefken.

Siefken adds that Nebraskans shopping for certain, in-demand items can expect to see less variety.

Using toilet paper as an example, she says residents will soon see more Mega-Sized Rolls on shelves.

“They’re more efficient, and it’s faster to produce those items and get them out to the stores to replenish those supplies.”

Siefken explains that as manufacturers adapt to the new reality created by the pandemic, they’re changing how they manufacturer certain goods.

“In the past, you would walk into a grocery store and see an entire aisle full of many different brands and many different sizes. (Now) You’ll get some selection, but you will not see the selection that you had in the past.”

She says customers will see more variety when there’s enough product for those in-demand goods.
